Naokah Bailes

NBailes 2Naokah Bailes grew up in Norman Wells. She is Sahtúot’įne from Délı̨nę where her family roots are. Naokah grew up spending time hunting and fishing at her cabin on Great Bear Lake, and tagging along with her bush pilot dad to the mountains. Naokah is very involved in the tourism industry throughout the Sahtu and has been for the past 10 years. You can find her taking part in research projects, leading youth outdoor-education programs, guiding canoe trips, or working for the hunting outfitters in the Mackenzie Mountains. She is involved with the Sahtu Renewable Resource Board through the Nıo Ń ę P’ęnę́ - Trails of the Mountain Caribou program as well as the Sahtu Youth Network's current campaign. Growing up in the Sahtu and spending time on the land inspired Naokah to take Nature-Based Tourism Management at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC). Naokah strives to get Sahtu Dene people involved in the tourism industry as well as incorporate traditional dene knowledge.

Jasmine Bailes

JasmineBailesJasmine Bailes grew up in the Sahtú region, living in Norman Wells. She spent time on the land and learning the traditional knowledge of the Sahtú Dene people, which influenced her life and is the foundation for who she is. Jasmine has always been interested in the environment and wants to take that interest further into her post-secondary career.  She is majoring in Environmental Studies at the University of Alberta, she will be able to learn more about the environment and its issues. Furthermore, she hopes to have a future career path within the Sahtú region, learning more about the land and protecting it for future generations. 

Jules Fournel

Jules Fournel took two years off work to complete the Environmental and Natural Technology Program in 2009 and pursue a new career as an adult student. He graduated with a degree from Aurora College in 2011. Jules started his career with the Government of the Northwest Territories in 2010 as Fire Technician and shortly after graduation he became a Forest Officer. In 2014 he was the successful applicant for the Renewable Resources Officer II position and currently works out of the Norman Wells regional office. You can find Jules enjoying the outdoors in his leisure time. 

Bonnie Deschene

Deschene Bonnie photoBonnie is from Norman Wells. She completed the Access program at Aurora College in June 2017 and enrolled in the ENRTP program in Fort Smith.
