Resource Management in the Sahtú
The Sahtú Dene and Métis Comprehensive Claim Agreement (1993) and the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (1998) established an integrated resource management system for our region and the NWT as a whole. Co-management boards, local Renewable Resources Councils, and governments (Federal, Territorial and Aboriginal) work together to make wise conservation and development decisions for the land.
Working Together
Our regional co-management partners are the Sahtú Land and Water Board and the Sahtú Land Use Planning Board. The Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board and the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board address resource management decisions that are cross-regional in scale. These boards were established under the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act.
The Ɂehdzo Got’ı̨nę Gots’ę́ Nákedı collaborates closely with local Ɂehdzo Got’ı̨nę (Renewable Resources Councils) in research and management related to wildlife, harvesting and habitat.
